Karl Lagerfeld Hotel Macau to Open in 2017

Karl Lagerfeld, the renowned Chanel designer, has signed a deal with a Macau casino operator to design and create his first hotel. The hotel is set to open in 2017 in the gambling enclave of Southern China.
Lagerfeld will design the entire hotel and commented that he thinks it’s a great idea. Macau is the only region in China where gambling has been legalized. It is estimated that in 2012 Macau produced around $38 billion in gambling revenues which is six times more than the Las Vegas strip.
The Lagerfeld hotel will be situated within the Lisboa luxury development. The complex is also set to include a Versace inspired hotel to be designed by the Versace fashion label. This is not the first project outside of fashion that Lagerfeld has under taken, having already designed a pool in Monte Carlo and two luxury suites for a hotel in Paris. Lagerfeld even designed a Diet Coke can and Magnum Ice Cream.
Lagerfeld is aiming to giving the hotel a 19th century style but it will be modern and he hopes to make it feel personalized and intimate. Lagerfeld went on to comment that “I make rooms where I would like to sleep. It’s as simple as that.”
