Jimmy Buffet Gives Free Concert in Atlantic City
Last Saturday Jimmy Buffet gave a free concert on Atlantic City’s LandShark Beach and attracted a crowd of over 50,000 people. This is the second biggest event of its kind of all time, the Beach Boys hold the record for a 1983 concert which attracted over 250,000 people.
Buffet’s concert was to celebrate the new Margaritaville complex which recently opened at the Resorts Casino Hotel. According to city officials there were around 30,000 people listening on the beach and another 20,000 enjoying themselves on the boardwalk and the LandShark bar.
The event was opened with a set by Andy Grammer followed by a four song prelude by Mac McAnally. Then Buffet came on stage and delighted the crown for over an hour with some of his greatest hits before he handed the stage over to Wilson Phillips.
The new Margaritaville opened towards the end of last month and cost $35 million to build. It is a 14,000 square foot complex and the 25th that Buffet has opened. It includes a Margaritaville restaurant, LandShark Bar & Grill, Margaritaville-themed casino, Five O’clock Somewhere bar, retail store and a coffee shop.
