Atlantic Casino Head Calls for Legal Online Gambling
The head of the Atlantic Club Casino Hotel, Michael Frawley, has announced his support for the legalisation of online poker and casino games in New Jersey.
Frawley appealed to State Governor Chris Christie to sign a pending bill into law which would allow the state’s casinos to offer residents a range of online gambling games.
Frawley believes that online gambling would aid the state’s economy and especially its struggling gambling industry. Due to a fall in the number of visitors, the recession and Superstorm Sandy revenues have been steadily falling in Atlantic City.
At present PokerStars is seeking permission to purchase the Atlantic Club Casino Hotel and offer poker services to local players that register at the casino.
This would be the first time that an online operator acquires an Atlantic City hotel.
Frawley said that he sees this “as an amazing opportunity for New Jersey, a defining moment for the Atlantic Club, for the city and for new Jersey …. This is much more than just someone sitting in their living room with a computer.”
Governor Christie is expected to make a decision about the bill later this week.
