New World Record Set by PokerStars Online Tournament
Earlier this week the Guinness World Record for the most players playing in a single online tournament was broken at PokerStars.com. Two-hundred thousand players registered and paid $1 to compete in the No Limit Hold’em tournament, there may have been even more players but the tournament was limited to 200,000.
Fatima Moreira de Melo, a member of Team PokerStars and Olympic Hockey gold medal winner, who took part in the tournament believes that people enjoy online poker so much because it allows “anyone to compete in the same tournaments with the best players in the world, and gives them the opportunity to become champion poker stars.”
Fatima was present at the huge celebration of the new World Record at the Hilton Prague, the most recent stop of the European Poker Tour. Also present at the celebration was the Guinness World Record Adjudicator, Gaz Deaves, who confirmed that PokerStars had set the new record.
The tournament was won by “sokoluk1991” from Russia after only seven hours of play and a thrilling final table. There were players participating from across the globe which truly demonstrated the popularity of poker and its ability to unite people from different cultures.
Whilst the tournament was running the PokerStars World Record Tournament Radio Show ran a special live broadcast which was hosted by Nick Wealthall and Joe Stapleton. The show gave away hundreds of prizes to listeners at the same time as truly capturing the excitement of the tournament.
PokerStars are celebrating their 10th Anniversary this month and the world record tournament was an excellent launch to these celebrations. As part of the celebrations PokerStars are also holding a fantastic $10 Million Sunday Million tournament as well as giving players the chance to win one of 100 trips to the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure which will be taking place in January.
