New Zealand Welcomes Online Casinos

Quick to join those countries eager to welcome online casino companies, New Zealand has recently invested in technology to bring the latest in new services to the public. New Zealand Lotteries Online is expected to be operational this year and could pave the way for private online casinos for casino fans. The new technology provided by Gtech Holdings will be available for online casinos to use as soon as a central policy is implemented to address issues including underage gambling and registration.

However the move hasn’t come without its share of controversy. Several lobby groups have expressed concern that online casinos could potentially cause a range of social problems. The government has been quick to offer reassurance that prior to popular casino games becoming available, a number of issues must first be addressed. Player registration and underage gambling at online casinos are just two areas of concern the government is currently focusing on, along with how to regulate online casinos.

While opposition to the deal between New Zealand Lotteries and Gtech Holdings reached governmental levels, amendments to the Gambling Act 2005 have permitted the two companies to proceed with their plans. Fans of online casinos are keeping a close eye on developments and many now believe that once the government has successfully formulated a policy toward online gaming, casino players will be able to play at online casinos more securely than before.
