Tim Draper Proposes Splitting California into Six
The noted investor Tim Draper has put forward the idea of a ballot proposition which would split California into six separate states. In a press conference Draper said, “The status quo is just not going to work. The existing breadth of industry and various interests in California is untenable.”The idea is to break California into six entities, Silicon Valley, West California, Jefferson, South California, Central California and North California. Each state would get two senators adding a total of ten to Congress. This of course would result in a major shift of the two-party balance which has been in place for over 200 years.
Draper thinks that the government would eventually accept the idea but “They’ll be nervous about change.” Draper is so passionate about the idea he has said that he will pay for it. It may cost millions of dollars and he has no major partners yet, but he is convinced that there is a lot of grassroot interest.
Of course there are still a lot of unanswered questions, such as who will be in charge of creating new governors and redrawing congressional districts. However, it appears the idea does genuinely have support and Draper is determined to see it through.
