New Jersey Online Gambling to Launch in November
Gaming officials in New Jersey have set November 26th 2013 as the date for the launch of online gambling. This means that New Jersey residents will be able to enjoy online poker in addition to eating turkey over Thanksgiving this year.
It is thought that the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa will be amongst the first to offer online games. The casino is busy preparing for an online launch and it hopes to be ready once regulators give it the green light.
Boyd Gaming, the Borgata’s parent company, has revealed plans to lead the way in the state’s internet gaming. The company is relying on online gambling to boost profits and believes that its internet offering will complement its land-based operations. In particular it thinks that online poker will cause more players to visit casinos after winning online satellites which give entry into live events.
There are conflicting estimates regarding how much money online gambling will earn the state. The state treasurer has said that the first year of operation could see as much as $1.2 billion generated from online gambling, which will result in tax revenues of $180 million for the state.
