888 First to Secure Online Poker License in the US

888 Holdings has become the first online gambling company to receive an online poker license in the United States since “Black Friday” of 2006.

Online gambling company 888 Holdings obtain an online poker license from Las Vegas gaming commission
Poker players in the US have had a long wait since the 2006 and more recent 2011 ban of online poker gaming which was a blow to online poker giants such as Poker Stars and Full Tilt.
Following years of exile to Europe or Canada US online poker players can finally return to home territory with 888’s plan of launching an online poker room in Nevada in the near future.
888’s plan also includes the creation of “the Web spin-off of Caesars’ World Series of Poker tournament” which is bound to lure back players to the US.
The online gambling licence handover is a result of a long negotiation process with the Las Vegas gaming commission.
On top of an extensive list of the strictest requirements, gambling companies are expected to pay up to $1 million for the license. However, it is likely that 888’s biggest rival, bwin.party, will follow suit and aim to secure an online gaming license of its own.
