Many American States are trying to pass online gambling bills, here is a roundup of the latest developments
In Illinois State Senator Terry Link introduced a 555 page gambling bill last week. The bill covers the expansion of brick and mortar gambling in Chicago and four other cities as well as online gambling.
If the bill passes then both poker and online casino games would be legalised. However, the bill does exclude software providers if they have ever accepted US players in the past.
In New Jersey the American Gaming Association has filed a brief with the Casino Control Commission opposing the licensing of PokerStars.
There will be a hearing on the suitability of PokerStars to operate the Atlantic Club casino later this year.
In both Hawaii and Iowa online gambling bills failed to meet their crossover dates. A bill has to pass at least one chamber by a certain date or it dies.
Hawaii has failed to pass an online gambling bill now for five years, in Iowa the Senate passed an online poker bill last year but it failed to pass the House.
