The world is watching as Hurricane Sandy approaches America’s East Coast.
The storm is threatening over 50 million people and has already caused widespread havoc as shops close and public services stop.
However, despite the chaos it causes, some people have managed to find some fun in hurricane season. On Intrade there is a market open on what the last named storm of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season will be named.
The most popular name is Tony with a 15% of being picked. Tony is followed by Valerie (12%) William (10%) and finally Any (6%).
Sandy is a Category 1 hurricane with winds of up to 85mph, hurricane force winds will be felt up to 175 miles from the storm’s centre and tropical force winds up to about 485 miles away.
Hours before Sandy reached land it had already knocked out power to about 24,000 people across several states.
The storm is expected to reach inland on Monday morning and lead to widespread flooding, many areas are expecting to see between 5 and 8 inches of rainfall over the next two days.
New York is mean to suffer the worst of the storm, an 11 foot wall of water.
