Close Odds For Democrats to Hold US Senate
The close presidential election is also causing some really dramatic Senate races.
A number of races could go in either direction and if either one of the candidates manage to get a few more percentage points on a lead for the top spot it could make a huge difference.
At present the Senate is controlled by the Democrats with 51 seats and two independents, the Republicans hold 47 seats.
The race this year is so close that the odds at betfair that the Democrats will control the Senate after the election are the same as those the Republicans have.
The Democrats will certainly have to fight hard to keep their majority, there are 33 seats being contested in November’s elections and 23 of them are held by Democrats. Seven of the seats have retired and if the Republicans can win four and maintain control of their current seats then they will control the Senate.
However, the Republicans have a battle in Maine where their Senator has retired and independent Angus King is ahead in the race.
If he wins, King is likely to caucus with the Democrats. They also have problems in Missouri where Todd Adkin is running against Claire McCaskill.
It really will be an incredibly close battle.
