US Election Odds Still in Obama’s Favour
The US Presidential election race is heating up and so are the odds. At present Obama is clear favourite with odds of 1/2 at Betfair and WBX, the best odds on Romney are 15/8 at BetFred.
It is clear why Obama is favourite, while Romney has seized the advantage in terms of poll numbers and momentum, Obama still has the upper hand in the Electoral College.
Mitt Romney may have seized the advantage in terms of poll numbers and momentum, but there’s one area where President Obama enjoys the upper hand.
According to Daron Shaw, author of “The Race to 270”, a book on electoral strategy, the Democrats “start with a larger number of electoral votes in the bank.”
Apart from Texas, states where Republicans are definite winners don’t bring very many votes; however, states where Democrats will win carry far more votes.
As Lara Brown, a political scientist at Villanova University explains, “the Republicans have to win the battleground states to win the Electoral College.”
However, the election is not definite and there is a real chance that Romney can reshape the map and win states that haven’t gone Republican for years. The next few weeks are sure to be full of intense campaigning.
