Californian Casino Operators Launch Advertising Campaigns
Californian gaming legislation made headlines yet again this month with operators stepping up efforts to introduce greater freedoms in the region. A number of top brands have been using radio and television as a means of imploring ministers to legalize online poker in the vicinity as the deadline for the review of bills draws steadily closer.
The group in question comprises of some of the best recognised names at work in the gaming industry. Hollywood Park Casino, Bicycle Club, Commerce Casino have all been participating in the campaign as have the operators of American Indian gaming firms such as San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. Many have been keen to stress the value of casino revenue in the avoidance of state budget cuts. A spokesperson for the California Online Poker Associations went so far as to suggest that online poker would “provide California with $250 million dollars immediately and billions more in the future.
Meanwhile opponents continue to fight against the introduction of online gaming facilities. Several American Indian tribes have urged legislators to drop proposed legislation – suggesting that internet venues would take away customers from more traditional land based casino destinations. The California Tribal Business Alliance chairman, Robert H. Smith, noted that several stakeholders stood to be “irreparably harmed should legislation be ‘ram-rodded’ through this legislative year”. Writing to legislators last Tuesday, Smith went on to say that this would amount to a serious “disservice to all Californians, tribal and nontribal alike”. Industry members will no doubt be holding their breaths in what look to be some very critical weeks to come.
