Nebraska’s New Study on Online Casinos

The first U.S. national study to determine the influence of medication on problem gamblers at online casinos is currently underway at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The facility was chosen to conduct the online casinos study after its previous research on senior citizens who play regularly at online casinos was deemed successful.

Potential subjects must meet several requirements in order to be eligible to participate in the research. They must be willing to visit the medical centre’s facilities in person during the course of the study, and must have gambled at least twice at an online casino in the last month. Subjects are barred from the study if they happen to be taking anti-depressant drugs, and must also meet at least five of the American Psychiatric Association’s ten criteria for identifying problem gamblers.

News of the study has been met with favourable responses from both the National Council on Problem Gambling and several online casinos operators. The National Council has stated that online casino gambling increases the opportunities to gamble, therefore increase gambling addiction. However, operators of online casinos state there are man gaming venues willing to fight problem gambling.
