Avoid Becoming a Victim of Online Gambling Scams
Everybody wants to win money, but where there is cash to be made so too are the scammers waiting to catch you. While the vast majority of online casino and gambling websites are legit, there are also many fraudulent sites.
Before you reach for your credit card and start gambling online there are some telltale signs that you should be wary of.
The first thing to take note of is SPAM emails for gambling online. Often, these SPAM mails are sent out by fraudsters hoping to lure you into their sites. If you didn’t opt in for mail, be sure to check out where they are sending the mail from and why.
Also, take note of the site domain as often, scam gambling sites utilize non-popular domains that end in ‘.biz’ or ‘.info’. Generally, legit sites use the most popular domains that usually end in ‘.com’ or ‘co.uk’. If you are not sure, do a little research on the web.
Stick to gambling sites that are licensed. Illegal and scam sites are not licensed and again a little research on the web will tell if they are who they say they are.
Tatyana Kulikova, Senior Spam Analyst at Kaspersky Lab offers the following advice.
- Never register at a site that was advertised through spam
- Only place bets through a reputable site; if in doubt do some research first and look for online reviews
- Ignore letters and mails that claim you have been randomly selected as a lottery winner
