Yaskawa Motoman Develops Robotic Blackjack Dealer
Yaskawa Motoman Robotics have developed a blackjack dealing robot known as “Dexter Bot” and were showing it off at last month’s Automate 2013 in Chicago.
The robot uses Cognex 2D vision guidance to read the cards, an essential skill for any card dealer, robotic or not.
The company decided to develop the robot to remove any chance of human error when dealing the cards as often the odds in blackjack are very much in favour of the dealer.
There are many advantages for a casino using a robotic dealer.
The machines don’t get tried, they don’t require a salary and can theoretically work for as long as there are customers coming into the casino.
However, a large part of the fun of playing in a casino is the human interaction with the dealer and the novelty of a robotic dealer is likely to wear off very quickly.
Yaskawa Motoman have over 230,000 different robots installed worldwide, they carry out tasks ranging from painting to selling ice cream.
