It appears that the iPhone 5 has got off to a fantastic start as a new report from ComScore shows that in its first three days there were the same amount pre-orders for the iPhone 5 as there were for the iPhone 4S over the course of a month.
According to the report the phone has proved to be so popular for two main reasons. The first reason is simply that there are more people looking to buy smartphones than ever before.
The second reason is that ComScore believes there was a substantial group of people who waited for the iPhone 5.
Normally smartphone sales increase in Q2 but that didn’t happen this year, it’s possible that this was because the people due to receive upgrades held out in order to receive and iPhone 5.
Recently investment bank Piper Jaffray said that 83% of people who bought the iPhone 5 were upgrading from an earlier model.
If the two reports are true then it appears that the negative media surrounding the iPhone 5, mainly over the new maps software and the seeming lack of any spectacular new features, has not had any impact on sales figures.
