Sony Shrinks the PlayStation 3
Sony has announced a number of changes to the PlayStation range of products and services.
For a start the PlayStation 3 will be becoming smaller and lighter, there will be PlayStation Plus for the PlayStation Vita, a number of new manufacturing partners for creating PlayStation Mobile content and all of this new content will be available through the PlayStation Store.
The new PS3 has been completely redesigned in order to reduce the volume and weight of it by more than half.
It will also have more storage capacity than the older models; there are now 250GB and 500GB models as well as a 12GB flash memory model. There will also be a number of new accessories released with the new models such as a vertical stand.
From November PlayStation Plus will be available on the PlayStation Vita, the package allows users to play free games and receive discounts on titles.
Sony also revealed that Fujitsu and Sharp will now be selling devices which are PlayStation Certified as well as ready-to-play content on PlayStation Mobile.
Last but not least, Sony will be releasing a PlayStation Mobile Developer programme as well as the official PlayStation Mobile SDK in November allowing developers to release content through the PlayStation store.
