Intel to Host Windows Tablet 8 Event

Intel will be running a pre-Microsoft Windows 8 tablet event at the end of September.

The event is a chance for manufacturers to show off their latest Intel-based tablets and also for Intel to present details on the latest generation Intel Atom processor.

The event is a chance for manufacturers to show off their latest Intel-based tablets and also for Intel to present details on the latest generation Intel Atom processor.

Manufacturers such as ASUS, Dell, Acer, HP, Lenovo, Samsung and ZTE will be participating in the event, with ZTE being of particular interest as they are the only company which has not yet announced plans for Windows 8.

ZTE were rumoured to have tested a Windows Phone 8 device earlier this week which suggests that the company may develop a Windows RT tablet. However, this wouldn’t fit in with Intel’s CPUs which are designed to power full Windows 8 machines.

The event is taking place at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and will be hosted by Erik Reid, the general manager of Application Processor Platforms in the Mobile and Communications Group at Intel

The new Atom Processor is capable of running anything that a Windows 7 laptop can. This means that devices based upon it will be running the full version of Windows 8 unlike tablets which are based on Windows RT and cannot run legacy software.
