Apple Rolls Out Thinner iPhone 5
iPhone 5 is here! In an exciting media event that ended with a performance by the Foo Fighters, Apple unveiled the long awaited iPhone 5.
In our view, the most innovative feature of the new iPhone can be summed up as “less is better”.
The new iPhone 5 is 18% thinner, 20% lighter and takes up 12% less volume. Apple’s challenge here is to succeed is marketing “less as more”.
How do you make a revolution out of less? Coke did a great job of it with their “Coke Less”.
The iPhone features a 4 inch screen – a half inch bigger than the previous iPhones. You get 326 pixels per inch at 1136 by 640 resolution. Even colors are better – saturation is 44% greater than past models.
The iPhone 5 is the same width, but is 9 millimeters taller. This means you can still hold it in one hand (unlike many of today’s super-sized smartphones) and type away.
Gadgets geeks are bound to be disappointed. The iPhone 5 won’t take you the Moon and it doesn’t include a Lady Godiva chocolate dispenser. It is incrementally better than its predecessor in size and features.
The elephant in the room was Samsung. What will the Korean giant do? Thanks to a recent US court ruling, Samsung will have to innovate their way to the top.
Apple’s shareholders will no doubt have yet another great year. With such touch economic conditions around the world, can you imagine how bad things would be in a world without Apple, Samsung and mobile technologies?
