Hurricane Trackers for iOS costs $2.99 and offers storm maps, National Hurricane Center info, threat level maps, forecast updates, real-time feeds and alerts. It has an excellent interface which is easy to navigate in order to find information as fast as possible.

Those who use Android can check out Hurricane Hound. Built upon Google Maps it tracks both forecasts and the locations of hurricanes and tropical storms. A word of warning though, the free version is very out of date; it appears that all the latest features are only available in the $1.99 add-free version, for instance the latest radar and weather satellite overlays.

Finally the Hurricane – American Red Cross app is available for both Android and iOS. It is new and 100% free. It claims to “monitor conditions in your area …. prepare your family and home, find help and let others know you are safe even if the power is out.” Definitely an app for the safety conscious among us.
