Danny Welbeck Signing Enhances Arsenal’s Prospects
Many consider the sale of Danny Welbeck by Manchester United to Arsenal as one of the most surprising transfers of the summer.
Welbeck has been nurtured by United for fifteen years and is approaching his best; therefore it seems strange that United would sell him to one of their biggest rivals. However, Welbeck is sure to be a great aid to Arsenal over the course of the season.
On the other hand, he will still have to prove himself in the main central striker’s role. In some ways he is better suited out wide and that is not what Arsenal really need. However, he is the ideal age, extremely versatile across the front three positions and is hugely experienced. Many are predicting that Welbeck will soon become Arsenal’s leading striker; Rio Ferdinand, his old teammate, has predicted that he “will flourish and explode”.
There are already a number of England internationals at Arsenal, such as Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott, Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The addition of Welbeck is likely to make the team even stronger and versatile.
Arsenal’s next game is against Manchester City and while City is the bookies’ favourite to win, Arsenal is not far behind and could pull off a surprise.
