Yorkshire Cricket Championship Prospects Hit by Andrew Gale Ban
After his part in a heated verbal exchange with Lancashire’s Ashwell Prince, Yorkshire’s captain Andrew Gale has been banned from his side’s last two County Championship matches.
Gale accused Prince of slowing the game down to minimise the number of overs he and Usman Khawaja would face as they attempted to salvage a draw. Gale’s abusive language, which continued as the players left the field, means that he won’t be able to try and lead his side to their first title win since 2001.
Next week the team plays Nottinghamshire and if the Championship race is to continue beyond next week then Nottinghamshire will have to better Yorkshire’s points by at least three.
Yorkshire is bound to feel the absence of their captain, especially after he led them through such a fantastic season.
However, Adil Rashid was the main asset to Yorkshire against Lancashire with five for 117, his first five-wicket haul since last June. It is the second time in his career that he took five wickets and scored 150 in a roses match.
At most bookies Yorkshire is firm favourite to win the Championship with Nottinghamshire a fair way behind. However, it remains to be seen if the absence of Gale will make a difference.
