British Punters Back Team GB at Rio Olympic Games

British Punters Back Team GB at Rio Olympic Games

UK bookmakers have said that the British public is confident of Team GB coming away from the Olympic Games with an impressive haul of medals.

There are now odds of 10/11 available at a number of major bookmakers that Britain will come away with at least 19 gold medals from this year’s Games. William Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams said that the vast majority of customers “believe that Team GB will produce a significant haul”.

Team GB won 65 medals at the London 2012 Olympics and British bookmakers handled £80 million of bets. While that level of betting isn’t expected this time around there are still a huge number of bets being placed. The most popular British athlete is swimmer Adam Peaty who has odds of 1/5 to win gold in the 100m breaststroke. Also popular with punters is cyclist Elizabeth Armitstead who is 4/1 to favourite to win the women’s road race.
