Premier League Managers That Are Hugely Overrated
This season has seen a huge amount of speculation over the future of various Premier League managers and a number of high profile sackings have already taken place. With that said, there are those who believe that some of the most respected football managers are completely overrated.
Harry Redknapp is loved by the media for always having a ready quote and at one point was very close to being appointed as England manager. However, despite his claim that he takes teams down to the “bare bones”, even when in charge of expansive squads, he has won just one trophy with a Portsmouth team that was so expensive it almost bankrupt the club.
Another well respected manager is Kenny Dalglish who achieved the Double with Liverpool when he inherited a great team and won the league with Blackburn. However, he was very poor at Newcastle and Celtic and when he returned to Liverpool the Luis Suarez affair stained his legacy.
A number of Arsenal fans love Arsene Wenger and he was certainly an excellent coach for a bit. However, the team hasn’t won the league in a very long time and there is a huge amount of controversy over how fragile some Arsenal players seem to be when tackled.
Similarly, Sir Alex Ferguson is a legend at Manchester United. But the team only won two Champions League trophies during the 25 years he was in charge. Statistically this means that they lost 92% of the time and while the Champions League isn’t an easy competition to win, you would expect better.
These are just a few of the managers who perhaps don’t deserve their reputations. It remains to be seen what the rest of this season will bring.
