The Players Set to Become Stars of English Football

The older generation of English football stars, such as Wayne Rooney, are well known to all fans. However, there is a new generation of players fast rising through the ranks and it won’t be long until they start to make regular appearances and some are bound to become household names.

Southampton has an excellent history of producing full-backs, for example Wayne Bridge, Gareth Bale and Luke Shaw. Now all eyes are on Matt Targett who just helped the team win the under-21 Premier League.

Having made his debut for Arsenal at the age of 16 Gedion Zelalem has already played in various age group teams for Germany where he was born. However, as he is also eligible to pay for Ethiopia and the US, there are many people hoping that he chooses to stay in English football.

All season people having been watching Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham who played a crucial role in Chelsea’s 3 – 1 win over Manchester City in the first leg of the FA Youth Cup Final. He is an enormous talent and it is widely thought that he could break into Jose Mourinho’s first team squad.

One of the only bright spots in the season for Leeds fans has been the amazing progress of Lewis Cook. The midfielder was recently named the Football League’s apprentice of the year and there is much speculation over where the future will take him.
Manchester City’s expensive football academy has not always attracted headlines for the right reasons, but one of the earliest graduates, Brandon Barker, is hugely talented and was recently promoted to train with the first-team squad.

All these players have demonstrated remarkable abilities over the last season and it is surely just a matter of time before at least one of them becomes the next star of English football.
