UEFA Champions League: October 21 Match Results, Goals and Highlights

Yesterday’s line up of EUFA Champions League matches were full of excitement with 40 goals scored across the day’s eight matches. Below we recap the match results, goals, and highlights.

CSKA Moscow 2-2 Manchester City

CSKA Moscow and Manchester City met on the pitch with what was thought to be a game in the bag for Man City, who scored twice before the 40’ mark. Moscow answered back in the second half with two of their own at 64’ and 86’ (P) to end the game in a draw.

AS Roma 1-7 FC Bayern München

Bundesliga Champions FC Bayern München dominated AS Roma early on in yesterday’s play. AS Roma only managed to put one in the net at 66’, but by then it was fairly clear there would be no coming back from a four goal deficit. München would go on to score two more after Roma’s only point in the match to finish 7-1.

APOEL FC 0-1 Paris Saint-Germain

Apoel Nicosia faced off against Paris Saint-Germain last night in a match that fell decidedly in favour of PSG. On all counts, including tackles, shots and possession, PSG came out ahead, but only marginally. It was only at 87’ the French squad managed to put a point on the board and secure their victory.

FC Barcelona 3-1 AFC Ajax

Shots on goal and superior possession were the deciding factors for FC Barcelona last night in their match against AFC Ajax. The Spanish team had a significant advantage with the deadly combo of Neymar and Messi attacking, who had all but sealed the fate of their opponents from Amsterdam before the half.

FC BATE Borisov 0-7 FC Shakhtar Donetsk

Bate Borisov took a beating at the hands of Shakhtar Donetsk last night, who dominated on shot and possession in a clear display of superior football. Frustratiuon may have got the better of BATE Borisov during the match as they gave up two penalty goals to Donetsk’s Luiz Adriano, who scored five of Donetsk’s seven goals.

FC Porto 2-1 Athletic Bilbao

FC Porta and Athletic Bilbao had a neck-and-neck match yesterday which fell in favour of Porto, who doubled the number of Athletic fouls at 16 to their opponent’s 8. More shots on goal and a heavier emphasis on possession no doubt helped lead the team to victory.

Chelsea F.C. 6-0 NK Maribor

The UK’s Blue Devils dominated Maribor last night with a 6-0 win. Double the shots on goal of their opponents and a stronger tackling game from Chelsea may have beat down the confidence of NK Maribor as the ultimate victors took the majority of possession on top of capitalizing on penalties.

FC Schalke 04 4-3 Sporting Clube de Portugal

While Lisbon may have had the more aggressive attitude in last night game against Schalk, a more measure approach emphasising shots and possession would ultimately lead the German squad to a narrow victory.
