Arsenal vs Southampton Ends in Shock Result for Gunners

Arsenal were favourites to win their Capital One Cup game against Southampton, but manager Arsene Wenger picked a weak team and the club were defeated 2 – 1.
Southampton played better than Arsenal throughout the game, even though they were behind for six minutes, and deserved to win the game. Wenger played a side that had three teenagers in the back four. Francis Coquelin and Abou Diaby made their first Arsenal starts for 18 months and later on Tomas Rosicky and Lukas Podolski were brought in and neither looked fit.
Dusan Tadic opened Southampton’s scoring in the twentieth minute and a stunning strike from Nathaniel Clyne in the fortieth minute gave the team their lead. In the second half Southampton’s Sadio Mane, Graziano Pelle and Tadic managed to break through Arsenal’s defence with relative ease and had more opportunities to score than they took.
Southampton is now fifth favourite to win the Capital One Cup with odds of 10/1 behind Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea. The fourth round draw has not yet taken place, but Southampton’s future opponents are unlikely to make the same mistake as Wenger so they could be in for a tough match.
