Ryder Cup 2014 Takes Place This Weekend
Ahead of this weekend’s Ryder Cup the US team captain, Tom Watson, has said that his team will be targeting Europe’s best players, Rory McIlroy and Ian Poulter.
The US has not won on European ground for 21 years; on the other hand the European team has only lost the tournament once since 2002 and this year includes the world’s top ranked player and three of this year’s four major champions. However, Watson says that he thinks his team can still win.
Watson is after revenge for the surprise defeat at Medinah in 2012 when his team led 10 – 6 going into the final day’s singles only to lose 8 and draw 1 of the day’s 12 matches.
However, in addition to McIlroy, the winner of the Open and US PGA this year, team Europe includes three more of the world’s top six ranked players and is going to be extremely tough to beat.
Those who think that Watson is right and the US team can win could make a fortune as there are odds of 15/8 on a USA victory. However, it seems as if the bookies are also backing the European team with odds of 4/6 available.
