Champions League Results Place Favourites Too Close to Call

It was another exciting week of Champions League action with some surprise results as well as others that were entirely predictable.
The biggest surprise of the week was possibly Chelsea’s draw with Schalke. Chelsea are favourites to come top of Group G with odds of 4/11, Schalke are second favourite but they’re a long way behind at 15/4 and it was widely assumed that Chelsea would win this encounter.
Once of the most exciting games of the week saw Bayern Munich defeat Manchester City. Munich were always favourite to win this once, indeed they’re favourite to win Group E with odds of 1/2, but Manchester City put up a spirited fight. City is second favourite to win the group with odds of 9/2 but these may lengthen after this week’s result.
Group B continued much as expected, Real Madrid destroyed FC Basel 5 – 1 and showed just why they’re favourites to win not just the group but the entire competition. Liverpool also enjoyed victory over Ludogorets, but this was no surprise.
As the competition moves into its tenth week some bookies are offering equal odds on Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to win. There’s still a while to go but it certainly looks to be an extremely close competition.
