Mayweather Beats Maidana and Remains Favourite for Amir Khan Fight
Floyd Mayweather has successfully defended his WBC and WBA welterweight and WBC super welterweight world championship titles with a unanimous 12 round decision victory over Marcos Maidana.
Mayweather now remains unbeaten in 47 contests and is looking absolutely unstoppable. Maidana was not as successful as in their first meeting, particularly in his aggression. Mayweather avoided Maidana’s arcing punches that he employed successfully in their first fight and Mayweather dominated at the centre of the ring.
Mayweather landed 58% of his power punches compared to Maidana’s 26%. Mayweather also landed 43% of his jabs, whereas Maidana managed just 17%. Overall Mayweather landed 51% of his punches and Maidana landed 22%.
Watching the match was British welterweight Amir Khan, potentially Mayweather’s next opponent. The fight hasn’t been officially scheduled yet, but numerous bookies are offering odds for a fight between the two on Wednesday December 31st. Despite some tough talk from Khan, Mayweather remains overwhelming favourite to win with odds of 1/8. The best odds of Khan winning are 4/1.
The fight is expected to be confirmed before the end of the month and a Ladbrokes spokesman has said that they are expecting a “betting frenzy” as soon as it is.
