England Prospects Improve After Victory Over Switzerland
England has begun their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign in style with a 2 – 0 win away to Switzerland. Both goals came from Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck in a game that was packed full of action.
The victory will bring relief to Coach Roy Hodgson and fans after a disastrous World Cup campaign this summer. Furthermore, the game was likely to be the most difficult one in the group so England can now be fairly confident of qualifying for the main tournament.
With them in the group are San Marino, Estonia, Lithuania and Slovenia, none of which have very favourable odds of winning.
Now that the team has won two consecutive games both fans and bookies will begin to think that their prospects are looking better. England is still sixth favourite to win Euro 2016 at most bookies with odds of around 14/1, a long way behind favourites Germany at 3/1. However, it is very early days in the competition and if England continues to secure victories then these odds could start to improve.
England’s next Euro 2016 matches are against Estonia and San Marino in October and Slovenia in November.
