Manchester United Agrees to Pay £13.8 Million for Daley Blind
Manchester United has agreed to pay Ajax £13.8 million for Daley Blind. Blind was in Louis van Gaal’s World Cup team and plays as either a left-back or a defensive midfielder.
The exact terms of the deal are still being discussed, but if it succeeds then Blind will become United’s fifth summer signing. In a statement the club said that it has reached an agreement with Ajax “subject to medical and personal terms.”
It is thought that United have been trying to sign Blind for most of the summer but Ajax boss Marc Overmars was reluctant to sell him unless United met their valuation.
In the middle of last week Overmars said “we want to hold on to Daley for another year.”
Van Gaal will be keen to strengthen the team’s defence after a poor start to his time at Old Trafford and clearly thinks that Blind will be a major asset to the team. United has already spent over £130 million this summer and fans are becoming impatient after a string of poor results.
Blind was named Dutch Footballer of the Year in 2014 and has scored 3 goals for Ajax in his 120 appearances.
