US Basketball World Cup Team Prepares for Title Defence

The US’ team for the FIBA World Cup of Basketball has been announced and the team are busy preparing to defend their title.

Jerry Colangelo, the USA Basketball managing director, said that it has been the most difficult selection process he’s been through. In the end he picked: Derrick Rose, Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, DeMarcus Cousins, Klay Thompson, Andre Drummond, Rudy Gay, DeMar DeRozan, Kenneth Faried and Mason Plumlee.

The World Cup begins next Saturday in Spain when the USA will take on Finland in the first round. On Sunday they face Turkey and next Tuesday will see them play New Zealand. The team’s final group stage game will be on Thursday, September 4th against Ukraine.

At most bookies the USA is favourite to win closely followed by Spain and Lithuania. The team is certainly not expected to have any difficulties making it through the group stage.

Coach Mike Krzyzewski has said that he is excited about the 12 players selected and feels that the team has “excellent versatility and the makings of a really good defensive team.”
