Bayern Munich Prospects Hurt By Javi Martinez Injury
Bayern Munich has suffered a serious pre-season blow, not only did they lose the German Supercup against Borussia Dortmund, but midfielder Javi Martinez suffered such a serious knee injury during the game that he is now out for the rest of the year. The Spanish international, who switches between playing midfield and defence, ruptured his left cruciate ligament during the first half of the team’s 2 – 0 defeat. After the match as he prepared to fly to the United States for surgery, Martinez said, “Obviously I’m extremely sad at this moment.”
However, he remained positive and said, “I’ll come back even stronger.”
This is the second season in a row that the £32 million player has suffered from injuries. Last year he missed more than a month of games when he injured his groin in the UEFA Super Cup game against Chelsea.
The next season of the Bundesliga begins on Friday when Bayern Munich play Wolfsburg. The team has won its last five games against Wolfsburg and will be feeling confident of doing so again, nonetheless the absence of Martinez is sure to be felt.
