Will Courtois or Cech Start the Premier League As Chelsea Goalkeeper?
Thibaut Courtois has made it clear that he expects to start the new Premier League season as Chelsea’s goalkeeper. The problem though is that Petr Cech is also hoping to get the starting job.
It seems that Jose Mourinho has a big decision to make for Chelsea.
Courtois was impressive when he played for Belgium during the World Cup and he returned to Chelsea last week for pre-season training.
He also made it quite clear that he was returning after three years from Atletico Madrid to take his rightful position as No.1 for Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Cech has been in the Chelsea goal for ten years already and if he doesn’t get this start, then it has been said that Paris St-Germain will be hot on his heels with a £10 million bid to encourage him to jump ship.
Right now, Mourinho hasn’t made any final decisions yet but he is also aware, as revealed on Thursday, that he could lose Courtois to Madrid who are determined to make him their No. 1.
Mourinho also has a history of pitting his goalkeepers against each other and in 2004, during his first run as a Chelsea manager, he put Cech up against Carlo Cudicini. While at Real Madrid, he also put Diego Lopez and Iker Casillas head-to-head for the No.1 spot.
The fact is Mourinho better make the right decision since Chelsea’s success as a team will ride on his choice.
