Nico Rosberg Takes Checkered Flag Down Under
The opening of the F1 season in Australia saw Nico Rosberg lead from start to finish to take the checkered flag. This was Rosberg’s fourth career win. Rosberg commented that he was over the moon with his win and that his car was reliable and unbelievably quick.
His team mate, Lewis Hamilton, started in pole position but was forced to retire after just three laps with engine problems. Lap six saw Vettelreturn to the pits and his race was also over. It appears that he was running on only five of the six cylinders and had no chance of competing.
Coming in second, was Daniel Ricciardo who made his debut for Red Bull. All eyes were on the driver of the day, Kevin Magnussen, the 21 year old from Denmark, who took 3rd position and gave McLaren a place on the podium after their dismal performance last year after not getting one podium position the entire season.
The start of the race saw it first spill with Kobayashi colliding with Massa and landing them both in the gravel and Hamilton, the pole position holder, was already down to the third position. Before the end of the first lap, Magnussen passed Hamilton and the hopes of the Brit were seen slipping away.
It’s just the beginning of the season and hopefully Mercedes can keep up the pressure, but you can be sure all the other teams are not going to rest after this one.
