CES Crowd Treated to First Formula E Public Demonstration

Excited crowds gathered in Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show were treated to the first ever public demonstration of the star of the new Formula E Racing series, the Spark-Renault SRT_01E.

The car, which can reach speeds over 150mph with zero emissions, was driven around the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas by ex-Formula One driver Lucas di Grassi. It was the first time that the media and onlookers could see and hear the cars which will be taking part in new FIA Formula E racing series.

The CEO of Renault Sport Technologies, Patrice Ratti, said “Everybody at Renault is very proud that we were able to show the 100 per cent electric Spark-Renault race car in driving conditions for a very tech-savvy crowd in Las Vegas… We are very happy about the result so far and our engineers will keep working with Spark, Dallara, McLaren, Williams and Michelin to further improve the Spark-Renault SRT_01E so that all teams can compete with an amazing 100 per cent electric race car when the championship begins.”

So far ten teams have confirmed that they will compete in the first Formula E season: Venturi, IndyCar outfits Andretti Autosport and Dragon Racing, China Racing, Super Aguri, Mahindra Racing, Drayson Racing, e.dams, Audi Sport ABT and Virgin Racing.
