Becker Believes Arsenal or Chelsea will Win the League
Three-time Wimbledon champion Boris Becker has said that this year’s Premier League will be won by either Chelsea or Arsenal. In a recent interview he said that he “can’t see beyond those two clubs for the title.” Becker said that while City will be a threat, they have not yet gelled as a team. He also believes that Liverpool don’t have enough quality players to pick from.
Becker’s comments echo those of former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson who wrote in his just released autobiography that Liverpool were “eight players short of becoming genuine title contenders.”
However, Liverpool head coach Brendan Rogers hit back at the comments saying “that’s probably two short of what they need. We need eight, they need ten.”
Despite Ferguson’s view of Liverpool, the team are currently third in the Premier League, and level on points with second placed Chelsea and just two points behind the leaders Arsenal after the first eight games of the season.
Continuing his attack on Liverpool, Ferguson went on to say that Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was not a “top, top player” as he flounders whenever he comes up against United players Roy Keane and Paul Scholes.
