Azarenka Beats World No 1 To Claim Cincinnati Title

Victoria Azarenka has beaten world No 1 Serena William 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 to win the Cincinnati WTA title. With the US Open just a few days away the defeat of the world No 1 is sure to cause speculation.
Azarenka lost the first set in under 30 minutes having begun the afternoon with two double faults. However, she managed to turn things around and beat Williams for only the third time in 15 matches.
Furthermore, it was her second victory over the American this year having beaten her in the final at Doha.
After the match Azarenka said, “It was a tough match and we both fought really hard. It was an incredible week for me.”
Commenting on her loss Williams said, “’I just felt really off this whole week, but I was surprised to be in the final and surprised to be doing well. So I don’t know, there’s a few factors. I think what matters most was just fighting the whole time and survived to the end.”
However, Williams is still strong favourite to win the US Open with odds of 5/6. Azarenka is second seen with odds of 5/1.
