Tour de France Favourite Wins Eighth Stage

The Tour de France favourite, Chris Froome, overcame his rivals on the first mountain climb of the race on Saturday to win the eighth stage and take the leader’s yellow jersey.
Froome is by far the bookies favourite with odds of 1/6 available, the best odds on his closet rival Richie Porte are 22/1.
Froome finished second last year, behind fellow Brit Bradley Wiggins, and he looks on course to win this time around. After the stage Froome said, “I have to thank the team today. They did a great job and got me to the final climb, they are the ones who got me there. It’s the first (big) day for the overall classification. There’s a long way to go until Paris. There are two weeks left but we want to keep the yellow jersey.”
Froome attacked early into the stage’s second big climb up to Ax 3 Domaines and no one came close to him. His teammate Richie Porte finished 51 seconds behind in second place. Porte said, “We rode from the front and the team was absolutely perfect today, there was no need to stress. I’m absolutely finished but it was an incredible day.”
