What Comes After Kaka? Ask Ronaldo
After hitting his 150th goal for Real Madrid, did Cristiano Ronaldo celebrate? What words of support did he offer his team?
None at all. The Portuguese attacker had this to say to reporters after yesterday’s game against Granada. “I don’t celebrate goals when I am feeling sad and that’s the case today,” said the glum 27 year old millionaire.
Ronaldo says his issues are professional and not personal. Real Madrid spent £80 million to get him from Manchester United in 2009. “I’m not going to say anything else, people know why”.
We’d love to know why. Unemployment in his home country Portugal is 15%. In Spain its 25.1%. The average salary in Spain is €2,515 a month. Mr. Ronaldo earns €2,840,242.5 a month – not counting €17,000,000 a year in endorsements.
I bet a lot of Europeans would love to borrow his sadness for a few years. Is it too much to ask of millionaire athletes to try to be inspirational and positive and not be a whining millionaire? Whatever issues he has in the locker room must seem funny to an unemployed Spanish construction worker who can barely afford a weekend beer.
