The second week of La Liga matches is underway. This weekend saw upsets and triumph, for what games have already been finished we’ve got a short recap to outline the results.

Granada vs. Sevilla

Ending in a 1-1 draw, Sevilla earned a respectable result after goal keeper Diego Lopez was sent off for a foul against Floro Flores in the penalty area and the team struggled in the box a man down.

Granada’s attempt from the spot was deflected and then returned, finding the back of the net thanks to Mikel Rico at 37 minutes.

Sevilla answered back before the half with an equalizer from Alvaro Negredo. Despite having a man up for nearly an hour, Granada dominated the field for most of the game but failed to break out of a draw result.

Real Madrid vs. Getafe

Another upset for Madrid resulted from their meeting with Getafe over the weekend. Gonzalo Higuain managed to pull Madrid ahead around the 26 minute mark. However, Getafe’s superiority in the air left the team demoralized after a header from Juan Valera to tie things up in minute 52.

Abdelaziz Barrada caught Madrid on their heels in the 74th minute when he struck the game winning finisher to leave the game 2-1 in favor of Getafe.

Barcelona vs. Osasuna

Messi shined brightly over the weekend and carried Barcelona to a 2-1 victory over Osasuna. Joseba Llorente managed to be first to reach the net after a cross from Lamah.

A rather sloppy match followed with sluggish pace and more than an excusable number incomplete passes. Barcelona began to rely solely on the long game and connecting from afar to gain advantage on the field to little avail.

Osasuna had a near 2-0 lead when a shot deflected off the Barcelona post, allowing the champions to breathe a sigh of relief.

Messi came out with a revitalized substitution, including Xavi, Pedro and Villa to overpower the Osasuna defense. Messi managed to find the net twice before the final whistle and pull Barca ahead for the win.
