Wegner Claims Arsenal Can Win the League

Now that the excitement of the Olympics is over all eyes are turning to the upcoming Premier League season.

Arsene Wenger has said he believes that his squad are in a good position to win next season’s Premier League.

Last season Manchester City won the title and according to Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo, they are favourites to win it again. Di Matteo’s comments came after Chelsea lost a 3-2 to the champions in the Community Shield.

City has just completed signing Jack Rodwell for £12 million and Di Matteo expects there to be more additions. However, there are be a number of teams which are determine to prevent City taking the title two years in a row.

Arsene Wenger, Arsenal’s manager, has warned that his strengthened team will be excellent contenders for the title. Arsenal recently ended their warm-up schedule with a 4-0 win at Colognse during which new signing Lukas Podolski scoring two goals.

Wenger believes that the new additions to the squad such as Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla (as well as Podolski) will be able to provide a consistent challenge to the other teams.

Wegner said that the “first target is to do as well as we can in every single game and see where we stand at the end of the season, but of course we want to fight for the championship.” Wegner went on to say that they are much stronger now than last summer when they lost Nasri and Fabregas and Diaby and Wilshere were out because of injury.

Van Persie, who has said he will not be extending his contract, received a mixed reception from fans when he played against Cologne. It is understood that Manchester United are interested in buying him but Arsenal will probably hold out on accepting an offer until it becomes close to £20 million, then they are likely to sell him rather than letting him leave for free next year.
