Will Italy Pull the Rug from Under Spain in Euro 2012 Final?
While these two Mediterranean National teams don’t traditionally have a standing rivalry, one is brewing as we will find out who shall emerge triumphant in the Final match of this year’s euro Championship.
While Spain is just as deserving of their place in the final as Italy, the team has quickly amassed a following of haters. Those who love to bash on the powerhouse are still drawn to their games in hopes of cataclysmic upset, especially in the case of a potentially historic match for the team such as this one.
With a record such as Spain’s it is not so surprising to hear that even fans who oppose Italy still want to see Spain fall. Chalk it up to our deep seeded conviction of cheering for the underdog, to see David topple Goliath. However, Italy is far from David with a trio of imposing players that Spain is no doubt sweating over at least a little.
Italian players Mario Balotelli, Antonio Cassano and Andrea Pirlo are dominating the pitch as one of Italy’s best attacking teams in recent years. The team has ousted such Final hopefuls as England and Germany. Decimating strikes from Balotelli, crafty hijinks from Pirlo in the box, and a hearty dose of homophobia from Cassano will make for quite an interesting match as Spain attempt to corral Italy’s tumultuous trio.
Spain won’t be push overs in the match either, that’s for sure. With a historic win so close, the team is all but salivating. Even Italy coach, Cesare Prandelli acknowledges that Spain is the likely party to hoist the trophy overhead in this year’s competition. Since dominating nearly every game the teams has participated in this tournament, Spain simply put in the work to get to where they are today.
That being said, the rise in anti-Spanish sentiment from fans may have come to the support of Italy, and why not? With many other Final hopefuls, such as Germany, Portugal, and England knocked out, hungry fans need someone to cheer for and more fat to chew in their local pubs over a pint for what will no doubt be an eventful Euro 2012 Final.
Whatever team you may be rooting for, remember both sides have worked tirelessly to get to where they are and each wants to feel the cold kiss of the Euro Cup amid the Ukrainian summer. Stop in and pull up a seat wherever you can for what promises to be an epic bout between Spain and Italy tonight in Kiev.
