Spain Knocks Out France, Will Go On To Face Portugal

Spain has a lot riding on their shoulders after a crucial win against France. The two’s last meeting ended in a loss for Spain during the 16th round of the 2006 World Cup. This time around France never looked like it had chance in the eyes of many spectators.

It appears Spain is well on their way to creating history with the defeat of France and advancing to their next match against Portugal.

With Spain’s seemingly effortless give-and-go’s, France failed to seriously test the Spanish team’s keeper. Xabi Alonso on the other hand managed to fire two into the back of the net against the French in his 100th cap for Spain, earning the team a 2-0 win. France had won five and drawn one of the previous six teams they had faced, however a win against Spain seemed out of reach admitted captain Hugo Lloris.

France will now have to pack things up and return home as their Euro 2012 days have drawn to a close. Captain and Goalkeeper Hugo Loris went on to state, “We have nothing to be ashamed of – it was very difficult for our forwards, and we should leave here with our heads held high.”

In preparation for their next big game Spain aims to rest up and recuperate before Wednesday, when they will face Portugal in Donetsk. The two rivals will go head to head in the semi-finals for a shot at advancement to the finals.
