Manchester United vs. Newcastle Match Preview

Today sees Manchester United host Newcastle at Old Trafford where both teams will be battling hard for victory. Manchester United will be eager to put their mid-week Champions League draw behind them and Newcastle recently suffered their first defeat of the season.

Later today Manchester United host Newcastle in what is expected to be a tough match with both teams in superb form.

United defender Chris Smalling said that the draw with Benfica was disappointing as they’ve “kept a lot of clean sheets recently.” He went on to say that “Newcastle have been flying this season so it’s good we can play them at home and hopefully get the win.”

Wayne Rooney’s presence on the squad is in doubt due to a hip injury which caused him to miss the mid-week match. Sir Alex Ferguson, United’s managed, said that they will make a last minute decision about Rooney depending on his condition.

Newcastle have had a fantastic start to the season with players such as Demba Ba, Yohan Cabaye and Jonas Gutierrez all regularly putting in excellent performances. Tim Krul, Newcastle’s goalkeeper, has also been impressive and only conceded 11 goals in 12 league matches.

Alan Pardew, Newcastle’s manager, has said that he has no fear taking on Manchester United after their defeat to Manchester City last week. He said that they “have some key players back in Tiote and Obertan. That will help.”
Obertan and Tiote have both recovered for toe and knee injuries and are expected to help Newcastle as they attempt their first win at Old Trafford since 1972.

Newcastle have lost thirteen of their last clashes with Manchester United in the Premier League and only scored two goals in their last seven visits to Old Trafford. Both teams have only lost one out of their last fifteen Premier League matches, both against Manchester City.
