Couple Wins Largest Ever New York Lottery Scratch Card Jackpot

A couple from Poughkeepsie are celebrating after they won a $10 million jackpot on a New York lottery scratch card.

James Silverence bought the last six tickets for the lottery’s 50th anniversary game and split them with his wife. He had gone into the shop to claim $125 from previous winnings and overheard a customer complaining about losing which sparked his confidence. He spent $180 on the tickets and went home to give them to his wife. She was then astonished to find that she had won the jackpot on the first ticket she scratched.

The prize is the largest that the lottery has offered through a scratch card. They agreed to split the prize and received $3,309,000 each after taxes in one lump sum. They said that they want to put it towards their four sons’ education.
