March $414 Mega Millions Winner Steps Up to Collect Their Prize
One of the winners of the Mega Millions $414 million jackpot draw from March 2014, came forward to claim their share of the jackpot that was split between two winners. The winner from Maryland chose to remain anonymous and opted for the cash option and will take home $76.4 million after taxes.
Maryland is one of the states who still allow winners to remain anonymous.
Approximately $10 million of the taxes goes to Maryland while the owner of The Lady’s Liquor store who sold the ticket, takes home a $100,000 check. The store manager, Jayvir Jhala, said that he thinks there is nothing wrong with the winner wanting to stay anonymous.
Since the news broke that the winning ticket was sold at Jhala’s store, this liquor store has seen a dramatic increase in lottery business.
The winner of the other half also came forward last week. Robyn Ann Colloer took the $115,448,968 lump sum and placed it in a trust. She bought her winning ticket in Merritt Island.
Carols Everett, the communications director of the Maryland Lottery said, “We frequently see winners who choose to remain anonymous, but we encourage our winners to embrace their winning moment by sharing their face and name with the public”.
