Kansas Couple Win $71.5 Million Christmas Jackpot
A couple from Kansas are sure to be having the best New Years of their life after they found out they won the $71.5 million Powerball jackpot. Kevin Carlson and his wife claimed the prize at the Missouri Lottery’s headquarters the day after Christmas.It is the sixth largest lottery prize ever won in Missouri. Carlson said that he regularly buys lottery tickets at Autobahn BP in Platte Woods. He stopped at the convenience store the day after Christmas and discovered he had won the jackpot, “The first time I scanned it, I didn’t believe it, so I scanned it again. I kind of went nuts.”
Carlson has already quit his job as a mechanic but his wife intends to continue working. He said that he wants to use the time to “figure out what to do with the money.” The couple are already planning to pay off debts, help their grown children financially and take a trip to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. Furthermore, Carlson is hoping to buy his dream car, a 1968 Camaro.
The shop the ticket was bought at will receive a $50,000 bonus.
